Thanks Anthony, for the neck well, i plan a laminated one with mahogany, purple heart either as a center strip or 2 stripes of it with a lighter colored wood in the center, just not decided yet but i know that purple heart has got to be in there. I also want purple heart as a headplate veneer and for the inlay, i'll either order a fancy letter for the first letter of my Mom's first name or have Lacey give me her opinions on something i can achieve, it will be my very first attempt at inlaying so i need all the advice i can get!

As for my neck bud, what would you recommend i do? Does my ideas sound ok to your ears?

Serge

Yea! I thought you'd be blowing CCF's out of your nose on that one!

Russ, yeah, especially to Uncle Norman who's my Godfather BTW, when i started building guitars last year, he gave me a bunch o great tools that were all useful for my endeavour like a 9" bandsaw, tubing cutter, router and bits and other stuff. So, it was a delight to see his expression when i showed him no 1 and no 2 (unfinished but looking great) at the same time!

Billy, that's it, my CCF ARE ON THE SCREEN NOW, THANKS TO YOU BUD!

Serge, your idea for a single or double strip of purple heart sounds good to me. Do you also plan on binding your fretboard with purple heart?

Purple heart as a headplate veneer --- hmmmm -- not sure -- I think I would go with EIR -- but that's just me. I am not sure how difficult it is to cleanly gap fill around an inlay on purple heart.   As for the single letter -- you can get one from Andy DePaule or Custom Inlay (not sure if any of the sponsors here offer that service).

Sergio, I'm with Anthony here. I think purpleheart on the head would be too much.
Plus remember, you are using the purpleheart as binding, so: why not use EIR for the headplate and bind it with purpleheart? You will be completing your theme that way, avoiding too garish an appearance, and giving yourself a break in the inlay department. Namely, if you use a dark piece of wood on the headplate, it will be soooo much easier to inlay cleanly. Or you might want to try an ebony headplate if you are using an ebony fingerboard.

There's 2 cents for ya.

Steve

Thanks Anthony and Steve, Anthony i will follow your wisdom on the headplate veneer with EIR, i'll also be using EIR as fretboard material!

Steve, great idea on binding the headplate veneer with purple heart, i can visualize well, it would work great with the soundbox!

Does it mean i should bind the fretboard with purple heart as well? Would it be too much? And what about bridge material? should i use purple heart or EIR? Here's a pic of my box so you don't have to scroll up!

TIA guys!

If you are binding the head, bind the fretboard. If I had the power, that would be a law in the lutherie world. It always looks odd to me to see one bound and the other left unbound. For instance, the D35. Bound fretboard, unbound head. Looks like they ran out of plastic. But the other is worse to my eye, a bound head with an unbound board. Looks like a child stranded at a railway station. So, bind it all!

While you're at it, bind your bridge!

(Ok, just kidding about that.)

Steve

Serge I am with Steve's two prior posts. EIR for the bridge -- same reason Steve gave, purple heart bridge I think would be to much.

Nice work Serge! I like the purple against the Rosewood. When you get it all scraped flush, get us some close ups!

Thanks Anthony, EIR as a bridge is what i thought you'd say, just needed a confirmation and i think it will look better there than PH also!

Thanks Lance, that's exactly what i had in mind, as i'm scraping, it looks better and better, a bit of crack filling where the seating was not made properly tho but it is really encouraging!

Serge--again, Anthony and I are on the same page. EIR bridge.

Hey--why not get Mike Doolin to make you some Purpleheart buttons for your tuners?

Thanks Steve, if you meant the tuning machines, i already bought them and they are the silver Spertzels from Shane's, do you think they'd work well with what we discussed?

They'll work fine. I was just being facetious about the PH tuner buttons. Actually, giving it some serious thought, PH buttons would probably look weird.
(No wonder Anthony didn't chime in.)

You know the bridge idea isn't half bad! Are you up to doing it! The PH is gorgeous! When your done you can use Bob's joke(I think that's the guy) and call it the "Smoking Purple Heart Guitar"!!
